On Thursday, 22nd May, Mr Tom Dexter from Eurobodalla Shire Council, came to teach 3/4M and 4H about animal tracks and scats (droppings). He showed us how to find out what sort of native animals live around our school. He left us with 2 sand boxes filled with sand, a stick and a watering can. Each night a few students rake the sand level, water it down a little and leave a little dish of honey in the centre of it. The honey attracts the animals. In the morning the students examine the sand boxes for prints and photographs of them. The class then attempts to identify the tracks from a book Mr Dexter donated to the school called 'Tracks, Scats and Other Traces,". Thank you for your time Mr Dexter, we found the information you gave us really interesting.
Sadly, when the students examined the boxes on Friday morning, one of them had been interfered with. Please do not touch the boxes as we are really keen to find out about the animals living in our local environment.
