Today, Michael, Callum, Lani and I had to transplant some tomato seedlings. We poked holes in the bottom of the plastic cups. Then we used a thin stick to get the plants out of the seedling tray. We put soil in plastic pots, then we poked a hole in the soil and planted the tomato seedling in it. We are preparing for our South-East Harvest Stall in November.

Today we planted orange and mandarin trees. First we replaced the sand with new soil because the new soil will hold water and fertiliser better. Then we cut the plastic away from the roots, placed the plants in the holes we had dug, fertilised and watered them. It was hard work!!
Asher Gillian Kearney from Eurobodalla Shire Council talked to Stage 2 students about doing a Water Audit. The students will be carrying out various investigations around the school to determine whether our school is losing water from leaking taps and appliances. Any leaks will be identified and repaired so we can prevent water wastage and save money.
The Save Water website (http://www.savewater.com.au/ ) has lots of interesting information, online games and competitions related to water saving. Watch this space!!! 4H and 3/4 M have been cooking up a storm in Maths. They made some delicious cup cakes and got to eat them afterwards!! The season is Spring so we planted some capsicum and tomatoes in seed raising trays. We also planted Dwarf Beans on the right hand side in the middle. The beans will take seven days to germinate and the capsicums and tomatoes will take ten to fourteen days. We saw lots of worms, pill bugs and witchetty grubs in the soil. The worms are good and turn the compost into soil. William,Curtis, Luke and Asher Mrs Hanks has been taking students from 4H to work in the school vegetable garden.
We helped her out today and had a lot of fun. We also learned a lot about vegetable gardening. First we ate some rocket flowers and didn't think they had much taste. The rocket was very strong tasting though. Next we pruned the mizuna, (mizuna is a type of lettuce) and rocket. After that we picked some baby carrots because they needed thinning out. We then had to take down the old climbing frame for the snow peas. Finally we picked snow peas and broccolini. Hannah picked a twisted baby carrot for Mrs Hounsell. by Hannah, Keshi and Madeline |
